The speed of innovation and technology continues to outpace legislation, and often the legislators themselves. The rules of engagement and war need to be updated to account for the technologies of today and the future. The Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy can serve as that critical bridge between the world’s most thoughtful and forward thinking tech leaders and the appropriate government officials.

Technology is a critical factor and itself a central front in an era of great power competition. Diplomacy to ensure our technological edge along with freedoms and prosperity will be essential to navigating these dangerous times. The Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue University is at the forefront of thinking through this critical set of issues.

Tech diplomacy is an essential tool of modern American statecraft to lead through our values and deliver innovation to solve the most pressing challenges of the 21st Century. From promoting understanding of advancements in biotechnology and the importance of securing supply chains to prepare for the next epidemic or pandemic, the Center is charting the path to ensure our nation’s policymakers and diplomats have the technical knowledge they need to represent U.S. and allied interests on the world stage.

Winston Churchill warned us of the dangers of powerful technology in the wrong hands: “If we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. The Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue’s mission is to make sure that never happens – instead, to create the conditions so the wonders of science can help all of us, in the US and around the world, ensure life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Rapid technological change is presenting unprecedented opportunities and outsized challenges to U.S. competitiveness. Finding innovative, bi-partisan solutions through public/private collaboration is central to navigating this quickly advancing landscape.
