Stewart Ackerly is a lawyer based in Washington, D.C and is a Director at Statera Capital.  He served as the first Chief of Staff at the newly-launched U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, where he helped lead approval of $8.3 billion in financing for critical projects in emerging markets around the world.  He previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor at the Office of the United States Trade Representative, part of the Executive Office of the President.  In these roles, Stewart helped negotiate the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement and participated in other negotiations and enforcement actions, including with Japan, the European Union, India, and China.  He also helped oversee trade preference programs including the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).  Prior to his government service, Stewart was an attorney at Williams & Connolly LLP where his practice focused on international arbitration and commercial litigation.  Prior to joining Williams & Connolly, Stewart clerked for the Honorable Karen LeCraft Henderson of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.   

Stewart graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in History and Foreign Affairs, with Distinction, in 2006 and received a J.D. from the University of Virginia in 2011.
