Dr. Ali Shakouri

Ali Shakouri is a professor at the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue. He is the director of SMART industry consortium that brings together more than 40 faculty, researchers, and students from a dozen departments in engineering, science and agriculture who work on vertically integrated research ranging from novel materials and internet of things (IoT) devices to manufacturing scale up, printed device optimization and data analytics. He also leads Purdue-WHIN (Wabash Heartland Innovation Network) project whose goal is to create a unique living lab and a regional testbed in digital agriculture and in next generation manufacturing where advances in IoT and artificial intelligence are introduced in the ten counties surrounding Purdue. Shakouri was previously a professor at University of California in Santa Cruz directing multi-university Thermionic Energy Conversion center and initiating a new curriculum in Sustainability Engineering and Ecological Design. He received his undergraduate degree from Telecom ParisTech and PhD from Caltech. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER Award, the Packard Fellowship and the THERMI Award.
