WASHINGTON, D.C. – On December 5, 2024, the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue, the world’s preeminent trusted technology accelerator, convened hundreds of international leaders from government, technology, business, academia, and civil society at the 2024 Trusted Tech Summit in Washington, D.C. The annual event featured dynamic panels, high-profile speakers, and the announcement of major initiatives to advance freedom through trusted technology.

“The 2024 Trusted Tech Summit has shown that trusted technology is not just a tool but the backbone of freedom and security in a digital age. The launch of the Global Tech Security Commission Report and the Global Trusted Tech Standard represents a significant step in safeguarding critical technologies,” said Keith Krach, Chairman of the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue. “I am deeply grateful to the speakers, attendees, and all the members of the Global Trusted Tech Network for their dedication to fostering trust, transparency, and security. By aligning democratic nations and fostering collaboration, we can ensure that technology continues to serve humanity’s highest ideals.”

“Each generation of free people must bear the burden and embrace the challenges of their time to stay free. And the challenge of our time is that technology must advance freedom,” said Purdue University President Mung Chiang. “That is why the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue delivers training material through the [Tech Diplomacy] Academy, commissions the Tech Security study, and creates the trusted technology standardization.”

“As we approach 2025, it’s clear we must fundamentally rethink how we innovate, develop, and safeguard the world’s critical and emerging technologies. Viewing China as our ‘pacing challenge’ is both fundamentally wrong and dangerous. It positions us to follow, react, and let others dictate our pace,” said Michelle Giuda, CEO of the Krach Institute. “What we need is a common vision: a future where technology creates the safest, freest, and most prosperous era in human history. By focusing on this shared vision, we set the pace.”

Spotlight on Global Tech Security, Talent Development, and Trusted Tech Standard

The panels at the 2024 Trusted Tech Summit emphasized the importance of safeguarding freedom through trusted technology. The Global Tech Security Commission Report outlined actionable strategies to counter techno-authoritarian threats, while the Educating the Next Generation of Tech Diplomats panel stressed the need to equip leaders with skills to navigate the intersection of technology and geopolitics. Additionally, the unveiling of the Global Trusted Tech Standard initiative showcased a groundbreaking framework to define and label trusted technology, enabling seamless, secure and efficient collaboration across companies, countries and organizations.

The 2024 Trusted Tech Summit included the following panels:

  • The Global Tech Security Commission Report: Imperatives for Securing Freedom Through Trusted Tech

As government, tech, business, academic and civil society leaders strive to ensure that technology is innovated, deployed and adopted for the benefit of humanity, prioritizing the battlegrounds will determine who wins the future. The Krach Institute’s Global Tech Security Commission, chartered with bipartisan support from the U.S. Congress and multinational partners, has identified five high-leverage areas for the free world to act upon—now—to ensure that freedom is protected from techno-authoritarian threats. Several Global Tech Security Commissioners, each with extensive experience operating in the fields of foreign policy, infrastructure, dual-use technology and national security, came together to release the Commission’s seminal report and engage in a real-world conversation on how to utilize the principles of tech diplomacy to accelerate the innovation and adoption of trusted technology.

The need to understand complex fields like AI, quantum physics, 6G, and synthetic biology, along with the intricate web of corresponding laws, regulations and policies, is crucial for all decision makers. A group of public and private sector leaders at the forefront of talent development explored the imperative to equip diplomats, business leaders and students with the skills to operate at the intersection of technology and geopolitics.
