Expose Media Manipulation Techniques In a Digital Age

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN & WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue (KITDP) announced a new cutting-edge course as part of its Tech Diplomacy Academy, focusing on the critical issue of disinformation in the digital age. In this Year of Elections affecting nearly half of the world’s population, including in the U.S., recent advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning have aided the rapid creation of manipulated media by foreign adversaries, transforming the digital landscape and making it increasingly challenging to distinguish between reality and fabrication. The new course will delve into the creation and implications of manipulated media, exploring its far-reaching consequences on economics, politics and collective understandings of reality.

Taiwan’s First Digital Minister and KITDP Global Tech Security Commissioner, Audrey Tang, and other leading experts spearhead this essential course examining the ongoing cat-and-mouse game between the creation and detection of deep fakes, as technology continues to evolve and shape the information landscape.

“The Tech Diplomacy Academy was founded to equip the next generation of diplomats, leaders and citizens with the tools necessary to meet the coming technological age. Achieving that goal would not be possible without the first-hand knowledge of our partners like Audrey Tang who successfully fended off millions of technological threats to Taiwan’s election integrity earlier this year,” said Michelle Giuda, CEO of the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue and former Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs. “Audrey’s real-world expertise was instrumental in shaping our curriculum and ensuring that learners are equipped to tackle the complex information landscape that AI has catalyzed and that foreign adversaries are weaponizing. We are incredibly grateful to her and all of the experts leading this course.”

In “Deepfakes Decoded: Navigating Disinformation in the Digital Age,” the Tech Diplomacy Academy explores the critical role of education and public awareness in combating disinformation. By examining the intersection of technology, policy, and business, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the disinformation landscape and develop actionable strategies to promote media literacy and critical thinking. Ultimately, participants will emerge with the knowledge and skills necessary to become informed and engaged digital citizens.

The Tech Diplomacy Academy is being heralded by global leaders across government, business, high-tech and academia. To join the Tech Diplomacy Academy and see what others are saying, please visit TechDiplomacyAcademy.org.
