Network Building

A key principle of Silicon Valley tech strategy that can be applied to traditional statecraft is the principle of building and scaling a network effect. There are four key principles of creating a network effect:

First: Maximize the number of members. The power of the network is equal to the number of members squared.

Second: Reduce friction between nodes: In statecraft terms, this means reducing barriers to entry. Making it easy to join, and sharing a set of Trust Principles.

Third: Add value to each member: Consider proprietary/exclusive partnerships as in the example of the TD-10.

Fourth: Build a network of networks. The creation of the Clean Network was dramatically accelerated by including the European Union’s 5G Clean Toolbox.
