In your leadership position, how often do you exercise strategic thinking in your current role and what does it look like for you?

So, all the time, for sure. Sometimes it’s easy to get swept up in the fire that is right in front of us. And this goes back a little bit to the idea of making sure that we’re carving out time to really lift our days and think more holistically. But that is something that we as a team—that I try to do every day to make sure that we are not just being reactive to what’s in front of us, but thinking a couple of steps ahead.

Love it. Can you give just one concrete example of that, perhaps, that could help others better wrap their head strategically about whatever challenges they may be facing?

Maybe taking an example from the legal world. We know that there are certain regulatory frameworks that apply to the business and we know that the business wants to go in a particular direction.
And so being very intentional about tracking policymakers and legislation and how influencers are talking about problems, can help us predict the types of requirements that will be coming so that we can plan ahead for those.
One great example right now is for some time we’ve been anticipating more disclosure requirements from the SEC around things like climate change and cybersecurity. So really taking steps now to make sure that we’re in a place that we will be able to meet those requirements when they come out, you know, not knowing exactly what the scope is, but making sure that we’re prepared for it.
