More recently, what I’ve started to do is to ask people to put their ideas in a two, three-page paper and then synthesize it. And from there great ideas can come up once you take the time to read these distinct ideas, and in fact, keeping them as isolated as possible until you bring them together. Because then people can not get super influenced before they’ve got their own idea developed, and the best nugget could be a specific idea, it could be synthesis of these ideas. And that’s sort of how you evolve and work through.
So, to me, it’s always continuing to stay young. So, one of the things is always looking into the future and not just the past. Obviously, the past gives you strength, but the future gives you promise. And when you think of the promise, that’s where all the excitement and the innovation is. One of the habits I do for keeping my mind a little young is, every Friday, I try to listen to new music. And the way I do that is obviously, I’ll go to Spotify and look at some new music.
But if you think of the new music recommendations, there’s two parts you can listen to: there’s the head, which is obviously all the pop music and sort of the thing. But if you go from the bottom, you find really long-tail music, which is quite different and interesting. So, I’ll try to listen from top and the bottom. And that sort of allows me to have a constantly evolving repertoire of artists that I’m connected to.

Do you have a certain genre that you look for, or you just mix it?

I am super broad in my genre, in fact, Spotify gets confused. For example, if I told you my number one artist for the last two years, you’d be like, what? And yet, the top five songs don’t belong to that artist. So, my number one artist for both ‘21 And ‘20 was Justin Bieber. But my top five songs don’t belong to Justin Bieber, so somewhere in me is a teenage girl and somewhere in me is something else, it’s all a combination. It’s just all mixed up.

That’s so funny, I don’t really think of you as a Justin Bieber fan.
