Female Founders

Most big tech media and cable companies are still run by men. What are you doing to help empower women and other groups that are underrepresented in top level executive positions at these types of companies?

We're investing in women and we're investing in underrepresented individuals. And I think I didn't appreciate this coming into this job, but in hindsight, I think it's one of the best things you can do to support women and diversity in the workplace. Why? Because we all recruit, hire, mentor, promote in our own image. Teachers we're comfortable with. It's very human nature. It's just human nature and that's OK. It is what it is. But if you think about it, if you invest in a woman, the hope is that she will build a big company and naturally and inevitably bring women up with her.

So I'm of the belief that the more female founders we have in time, and it may take 10, 20, 30 years, the more female executives we'll have in large part because they'll have been hired and mentored and promoted by their female founders. So I'm really proud of the work we do in that respect and the fact that we have a fund. We have money set aside in a specific fund called the Catalyst Fund, whose whole purpose is to invest in underrepresented interests.

I didn't know that. That's wonderful.

It's wonderful. And I think it's yet another way that we are unique in our business.
