Generally, I’m at my worst as a leader when I’m frustrated and annoyed and I show it. It’s not a good vibe that I send out. It tends to make people feel bad about themselves. It’s not reflective about feedback. It’s not my intention to make them feel that way, but I am blessed and cursed with no poker face, whatsoever. I mean, I kind of wear my heart on my sleeve, so I sort of feel and sense when I’m getting there.
So, I think the parts that I haven’t done well is when it feels impulsive for me to express with a hard edge, my worries, my concerns, my frustration, my annoyance, it just never works. It sometimes feels cathartic in the moment because I just want to vent my frustration, but it is never helpful and that generally sets people back and makes it harder for them to really hear the feedback, act on it and bring their best selves to work. So that’s the part I think I struggle with the most.
