So as you're thinking about the next phase of your career, do you have any best practices that you can share about how to go about thinking about that and how to approach it?

I think it's interesting. I know a number of folks who I worked with my first time in government over the years, and they were really surprised when I left government the first time in 2011 and they said, "Oh my goodness, you're going into the great wide open. What's going to happen? You're taking so much risk." I think these days it's much more common to sort of reinvent yourself many times over. And I think you just have to be willing to assume a little risk in doing that and not fear the risk, but embrace it and say, OK, I'm going to try something new and it may take me a while to get there, but I'm going to get there.
