Mentoring Pods

Let me add as one final comment as we think about a mentoring network. Think differently about mentoring. One of the things… we had a fabulous leader in Siemens who started a concept called Mentoring Pods. You think a pod, what is a pod? Well, it’s you know, a pod of whales, right?
How about I think about an idea where there’s one person who’s willing to share perspective and expertise and then a group of four to six people who have interest in that subject. And for a period of time, you know, a defined period of time, it starts, it ends, but everybody understands that we’ll work as a team, a pod. We’ll work amongst ourselves and periodically pull that mentor leader in for feedback, reflection, redirection.
It’s a different kind of mentoring, but in Siemens, what it’s led to is the creation of new networks. And this is something I’d love for us all to be focused on. How our own mentoring networks are enabling progress for individuals and progress for organizations.
