Opportunity International is one of thousands of humanitarian organizations worldwide committed to helping others -- they all deserve attention and support. But what makes Opportunity International different? It starts with the offer of a "hand up, not a hand out" but goes much farther.

There are many nonprofits doing incredible work worldwide. What do you think makes Opportunity International stand out?

One, I want to make sure that I say this is that all organizations, people who work here to serve the other, frankly, deserve attention and deserve support. When I look up, I've now been on the humanitarian stage for 20 years and I look at the work, the conditions and the amount of work that people do to help the other, to help the people who are more underprivileged. It's truly amazing, so please support. What does Opportunity do that that is distinctive? We are one of the few organizations that believe not in handouts, but in a hand up. So my most favorite story is saying, well, what we equip are our clients, the women who are working with us, and we are partnering with how to fish. And we don't stop there. We first equip you and teach you how to fish. Let's get you the boat that you need and the fishing tackle that you need.

Now we go, let's then take the next step to see how do you sell the fish. Because simply catching the fish is not enough. How do you sell the fish? Finally, how do we actually get you to sell the fish and chips? That's where you make the real money.

I love that example.

So that's what makes us distinctive. We are out there trying to get millions of our clients to sell fish and chips and stand on their own two feet.

You've done it very well.
